Vision.

TRUMC is the “Church on the Trail,” walking with Christ, serving God, and changing lives. Everything we do as a church should equip people to “Trail Christ” as he calls each of us to follow him together. That includes our physical campus. A new Education Building will provide a more expansive and safe space to make disciples who will walk with Christ, just as our church buildings have done since 1893. Inspired by the many faithful disciples of our church who have come before us, we will continue serving God and changing lives and making new disciples in this new building and beyond its walls.

Issue.

Our current Education Building was built in 1964. Even then, it was not built big enough, according to the Chair of the original building committee. Not only have we grown as a congregation, but building standards and codes have changed in the last 50 years, and our current building does not meet many of these requirements. Another problem is accessibility: for our folks who are mobility impaired, it is not easy to get in or out from the building. While we have ‘refreshed’ our current building to provide for some of our children and adult discipleship needs for now, we are looking to expand and increase our capacity to provide a bigger and better facility to meet the needs of our congregation and our community.

Solution.

Our Visioning Team appointed a Masterplan Committee in 2016 to determine the needs of our physical campus. In looking at the need for a new Education Building, the Masterplan Committee spent about a year weighing options and developing plans. The current plans are to construct a completely new Education Building which will provide for our Educational needs: Sunday School classrooms, meeting rooms, restrooms, a Children’s Chapel, and our Office/Administration area; as well as our proposed Child Development Center, which would provide quality, Christian childcare for our community, also a visioning goal of ours.

Participation/Action.

TRUMC has a history of coming together to build when there is a need. A small group of faithful disciples paid for and built the chapel in 1893. Members of the church paid for and built the Education Building in 1964. A larger group of the church body funded the building of the new Sanctuary and Bell Tower in 1987. The church came together, despite some tumultuous times, to fund the building of the Family Life Center in 2003 (which we recently paid off ahead of schedule!). We have faith and trust that we as a church family, at this wonderful point in our church’s history as we continue to grow along with the city of Travelers Rest, will once again come together to fund this next exciting stage in TRUMC’s journey of walking with Christ, serving God, and changing lives.
